After studying pharmacy, Zach graduated with a PhD in organic chemistry in 2012 at the University of Paris-Sud (now Paris Saclay). He then moved to the UK to carry out postdoctoral researches on green chemistry at the University of Nottingham with Prof. Martyn Poliakoff and Prof. Mike George. In 2015, he returned to Paris and took a postdoctoral position with Prof. Janine Cossy at ESPCI ParisTech. In 2016, he started his independent career as an assistant professor by joining the Engineering School of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts where he defended his habilitation in 2022. His research interests lie in the development of new photocatalytic transformations and continuous flow processing applied to pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals synthesis.

In 2016, Zach has been awarded an Ignition Award from the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute and in 2023, he was awarded the Jean Normant Prize from the French Chemical Society. He also recently co-founded Linium Biochemicals, a spin-off from his laboratory aiming at commercializing photocatalytic lignin depolymerization approaches.
