Barbara Ventura is Research Director at the Institute for Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity (ISOF) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in Bologna . She holds a master’s degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Biochemistry, received from the University of Bologna. Her research activity deals with the study of photo-induced energy and electron transfer processes in systems containing organic and/or inorganic units, the study of photoactive host–guest and supramolecular structures, and the characterization of photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy. The examined materials are investigated in view of their potential applications in biomedicine (photosensitizers, luminescent probes, sensors) or optoelectronics and green chemistry (collection and conversion of solar energy, artificial photosynthesis).

She is experienced in steady-state and time-resolved electronic spectroscopy and in ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy. She has published 133 papers on ISI journals and has been and is currently involved in several national and international projects. She holds a wide collaboration network with renowned scientists working in materials and biomedical science. ISOF Institute of the Italian CNR in Bologna.
